Bonzo Goes to Washington – Five Minutes
This piece is (as far as I know) intended to be a parody and the listener is supposed to find some comedy in it! I think this comedic effect comes from causal listening – we hear the original sound source (a recording of Ronald Reagan) and then we hear it manipulated to be part of dance music. The initial causal listening provides us with a definitive sound source. Even though the voice is unrecognizable at some points, the listener still identifies it as the voice of the former president because of the order in which the sounds were presented. The auditory memory of the quote at the beginning of the song is still there. The end result is an image of Reagan as a rap artist – an image created entirely from manipulation of a found media source.
