Daxophone By Hans Reichel

I was most impressed by the variety of sounds that an individual daxophone can produce.  In tandem with others, there is the potential for compositions that sound ethereal or otherworldly.  The daxophone is a friction-based instrument that is played by plucking or bowing.  A contact microphone at its base picks up the sound for amplification.  Although the sounds and design of the instrument are non-traditional, the method of playing is.  This aspect is not a weakness, per se.  However, it makes the daxophone an instrument in a traditional sense.  It was device that was made to be inherently musically, as opposed to being re-purposed as a musical device.
